47. A Night in the Show (1915)
Essanay 1915-16
Synopsis
An elaboration of the Karno sketch 'A night at the English Music Hall' which had made Chaplin's name in the USA. He plays dual inebriate roles. Mr. Pest tries several theatre seats before winding up in front in a fight with the conductor. He is thrown out. In the lobby he pushes a fat lady into a fountain and returns to sit down by Edna. He then proceeds to interfere with the acts on stage. Mr. Rowdy, in the gallery, pours beer down on Mr. Pest and Edna. Mr Pest attacks patrons, flirts with a harem dancer, throws pies at some very bad singers, and douses a fire-eater and ultimately the audience.
