Synopsis
This parody of Cecil B. De Mille's Carmen by Chaplin was re-cut by Essanay and Chaplin later sued them for it. Charlie plays 'Darn Hosiery', a Spanish officer, who is seduced by the gypsy girl Carmen, leading to disgrace and downfall. Scenes from a sub plot with Ben Turpin and the gypsy band are cut in to the film and he and Charlie never meet.

- The film was expanded from two reels to four, without Chaplin's authority, after he had left the studio. The new version was assembled by Leo White, who also shot new material for it. Chaplin unsuccessfully took legal action against Essanay.
